I'm excited to share our new film Moloch, about how we all get disempowered without AI going rogue. It’s the 4th (and IMHO least discussed) dystopian AI scenario:
1) Rogue AI
2) Obedient AI misused
3) Obedient AI causes 1984
4) Race-to-replace by obedient AI

I saw Max Tegmark’s post today. He’s sharing a new film. Moloch. Owl In Space with the Future of Life Institute. He’s an executive producer on it.
He’s not talking about AI that wakes up and kills everyone. Not the rogue story. He’s talking about the quieter one. Number four on his list.
- Rogue AI
- Obedient AI misused
- Obedient AI causes 1984
- Race-to-replace by obedient AI
That last one. We all get disempowered and the machine never even goes rogue. Just does what it was told. Faster. Cheaper. Everywhere.
Weird. I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. Tools that help. Tools that replace. Those aren’t the same path.
In the film an engineer who built the tech watches jobs go. Family. Dark forces. The CEO. She wants to pull the plug.
I want this to lead somewhere good. People still in the room. Not replaced out of it.
